The success of implementing the smoking ban at the pesantren and the grave of Kiai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) has prompted Tebuireng to expand its anti-smoking area outside the pesantren.
The tomb of Kiai Haji Abdurahman Wahid (Gus Dur) in Jombang, East Java looks deserted at the beginning of last Ramadan. However, different conditions will be found a few days before Eid.
"Most of the Muslims do not make visits. However, a few days before Lebaran there will be another visit, "said Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School alumni, Roy Murthado, to Jaring.id, Wednesday, June 12 2019.
The peak of visits, he explained, usually occurs during the school holidays and weekends. The number of pilgrims can reach tens of thousands in a day. In the midst of crowded visitors, clean air is maintained because visitors are prohibited from smoking.
The prohibition on smoking in the grave area of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia is equal to three dollars with a smoking ban at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java. Both of them are indeed in the same complex. The hallway of the former room, which is now filled with souvenir traders, separates the santri neighborhood and the burial area of dozens of religious figures.
Gus Dur's grave is located in the north corner. Sentences in Indonesian, Arabic, English and Chinese are engraved on the headstone. It wrote: "Here lies a humanitarian fighter."
In the past, according to Roy, not a few pilgrims entered Gus Dur's grave while smoking cigarettes. In fact, they did not hesitate to leave the cigarette that was still steaming on the grave. This has changed completely since the smoking ban was implemented in the grave area.
"We do not provide a smoking area. When a pilgrim smokes, we will definitely rebuke it. It's smoke-free here, ”said Iskandar, when met by Jaring.id on Thursday, May 9, 2019.
For Iskandar, the implementation of KTR at Gus Dur's grave is in accordance with Islamic teachings. This behavior of clean living is often exemplified by Nyai Haji Farida, the wife of Kiai Haji Salahuddin Wahid (Gus Solah).
"Turn off the cigarette and throw it in the trash. Do not turn it off, rub it with your feet. Turn it off you have to throw it in the trash, "he said.
From there the anti-smoking culture in the Tebuireng area slowly awakens. Not only limited to students, but for all people who enter the Tebuireng area.
Currently, the habit of not smoking in Tebuireng has been accepted by the local community. Even the stalls around the boarding school no longer sell cigarettes. That is why Tebuireng took the initiative to expand the smoking ban area beyond the lodge.
The target is not playing games. According to Iskandar, Tebuireng will help the government implement a smoking ban in the Jombang area to East Java. He wanted the Regent of Jombang, Mundjidah Wahab and the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa to immediately draft a regional regulation on No Smoking Areas (KTR).
"In the future we will expand it (KTR) beyond the lodge," said Iskandar optimistically.
Referring to the data recorded on the protc.id site, only 23 provinces and nearly 300 regencies / cities have implemented KTR regulations. The Provincial Governments of East Java and Jombang Regency are among the regions that have not issued similar regulations. Even though this is the mandate of the Law (UU) on Health and Government Regulation (PP) No. 109/2012 concerning Safeguarding of Materials Containing Addictive Substances in Tobacco Products for Health.
